Who goes first in Big Monster?

In the standard three-to-six-player game, everyone starts together: on a signal, all players take their tiles and choose one.
Rule details
Choosing and passing tiles is simultaneous. The person giving the signal does not receive a separate opening turn.
Two-player play is sequential: the first player chooses a tile and discards another, then the second player chooses from what remains. That second player starts the next turn.
The special three-player variant also uses sequential choices and rotates the starter. The cited variant setup and turn sections do not say how to select the initial starter.
Official tie-break or fallback
No starting-player tie arises in the standard simultaneous mode.
