The first player to say what time it is goes first.

Rule details

Give that player the Start Player token. After a race, it passes clockwise to the next player. The apprentice variant uses the same opening rule.

If there’s a tie

The cited starting-player instruction does not specify a tie-break. We don’t infer one.
